I just got back from a great weekend at the Viera Wetlands and Merritt Island. This was about my 6th or 7th trip to that location and just love it up there. The Viera Wetlands was very good. But Blackpoint Drive at Merritt Island was amazing this morning. Although the first half of Black Point was pretty quiet I went down a couple of side roads and have never seen so many Egrets and Herons congregated in one location with many Spoonbills and Woodstorks. If you made the slightest move it seemed like hundreds would take to the air but in a moment they would come right back for the feeding frenzy. The photo opportunities especially for "bird in flight" shots were incredible. Also made a brief stop at Joe Overstreet Landing on the way back and managed to get one bald eagle to pose for a few shots. So many great places to bird in Florida this time of a year.
