I just returned from kayaking from the Fisheating Creek Campground with the Boy Scouts. When I wasn't chasing down lost scouts, I did manage to get a peek at some birds. Most notable was a male Bald Eagle, and quite a few beautiful Pileated Woodpeckers. Since the habitat was pretty uniform (all cypress swamp) I did take note of the following:
GB Herons (many)
LB Herons "
Great Egrets "
White Ibis
Wood Storks (Flocks, on wing)
Bald Eagle
Pileated Woodpeckers (8)
Red Bellied Woodpeckers
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Greater Yellowlegs (on mudflat)
Semipalmeted Plovers "
Great Crested Flycatcher
BG Gnatcatchers
Palm Warblers
Yellow-Rumped Warbler
B&W Warbler
Comorants
Cardinals
Barred Owls (heard)
Black & Turkey Vultures
Turkeys (group, cluster (sp)? of 10)
Red-shouldered Hawks (many)
Bold Thief-Crows (they came down & stole some of the scouts food!)
several small sandpipers were noted on mudflats, but they were too far away to ID, except that they were very small.
