Seen at the Ramble

A Sunday morning visit to the Ramble at Fairchild(Tropical(sic)) Botanical Gardens produced an unexpected encounter with the raptor pictured here, who was 30 yards away on the ground when first observed. I assume(no doubt incorrectly) that this is a juvenile broad winged hawk.(corrections welcomed..)I do not believe he was responsible for the aluminum foil wrapping on the limb.Additional images (for id purposes only--I had my flower photo lens on--)are posted on my flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/joelnrosenthal/

In the butterfly garden, hummers could occasionally be heard over the din of the calliope(yes calliope), but none were seen by yours truly.
