: : Some of the interesting birds in W. Kendall were
: : still present this week at two sites.

: : Site #1: Black Creek Canal, W of the Kendall-Tamiami Airport
: : Evidently, you can get there by driving along the S
: : border of the airport, and then N along the canal.
: : (I haven't tried this. I just walk from home.)

: : Up to 6 Scissor-tailed Flycatchers on the E perimeter fence.
: : A Least Flycatcher, 3 Wilson's Warblers,
: : and a Yellow Warbler (new this week) were seen
: : in the trees across the canal near the NW corner
: : of the airport.

: : Site #2: Railroad tracks near Krome Ave.
: : Drive S on Krome from Kendall Dr. for a bit less
: : than 2 miles, until you get to the C-1W canal.
: : Turn W along the S side of the canal and park near
: : the railroad tracks (do not block road). The birds
: : have been seen within 200 yards N and S of the
: : canal, along the tracks.

: : 2 Dickcissels, 4 Blue Grosbeaks, 1 Wilson's Warbler,
: : 1 White-crowned Sparrow (immature, new this week),
: : Indigo and Painted Buntings have all been seen
: : this week.

At site # 2 Friday afternoon we were able to see the buntings, no dickcissels or grosbeaks. Raptor watching was good however. We watched a peregrine falcon chasing a red-shouldered hawk. the peregine later landed in a nearby tree offering a close, long look. We also so a light phase short tailed hawk and possibly a white-tailed kite. The look at the kite was short and not conclusive, but an apparent long white tail seemed to indicate a possible kite. A kestrel was sitting on a wire along Krome just south of the road into the railroad.
