Troy and I have just returned from a great Veterans' Day Weekend of camping, canoeing, fishing, and birding in Everglades National Park. The highlight of our trip was a Western Spindalis (Lifer for both of us) that visited our campsite yesterday morning (11-11-07) in the Long Pine Key Campground (site D-22). It popped up right behind our tent and was feeding on the ruby red berries of the winged sumac trees lining the perimeter of our campsite. This native tree is found EVERYWHERE in the campground and thus, the bird could be ANYWHERE in the campground.
