Hi everyone!
Just got back from a great Pelagic Trip out of New Smyrna Beach. It was led by Michael Brothers and many other great birders. Being this was my first pelagic trip, I had lots of lifebirds.
What we saw:
7 Great Blue Herons (out about 20 miles from the coast)
Pomarine Jaeger
Long-tailed Jaeger
Parasitic Jaeger
Cory's Shearwater
Manx Shearwater
Audubon's Shearwater
White-tailed Tropicbird
Red Phalarope
Palm Warbler (!)
(He was migrating southwards about 40 miles off the coast; he decided to hitch a ride with the boat all the way back to shore)
As we got back to the inlet around 6pm, we had a Peregrine falcon chasing a sea gull just over the surface of the water.
A purple sandpiper was on the jetty as we were coming.
A bald eagle was on Disappearing Island as we were heading out.
It was a great trip.
P.S. I was told by Michael Brothers and Bob Wallace that Toe was sorely missed on this trip :)
