The Nikon superior E 10x42s are the best birding binoculars I've ever looked through. I've owned the 8x42 and 8x32 DCF WP Pentaxes, the 8.5x44 ED Swifts, and I still own the 7x42 Zeiss Classics. My brother owns the 10x42 Swarovskis. The Swarovskis are close, but the Nikons give a more detailed and natural view (and are lighter and more comfortable in my hands). Their color correction is nearly as good as the ED Swifts, and they are much, much sharper. The combine comfort, ease of use and phenomenal detail, and cost less than the trendier (but IMO optically inferior) roofs. They are not completely waterproof, but I put a pair of Butler Creek lenscaps on the objectives and replaced the ocular lens cover with a Zeiss model, and they never get wet or fogged.
I hunted around until I found my Nikons for about $640.
: Dear birders, In a word or three please point me in the right direction for some new binocs - my good big pair came a cropper on deck. Also, where can I get this Bill Pranty guide? A search engine asked me, "Did you mean PANTY!?" Paul - please keep posting your fab photos!
