While having lunch outside at Tarpon Bend in the Gables today, I was surprised to see a yellow-throated Warbler standing on the table next to me. It was pecking at breadcrumbs on the table, scarfing them up like corn chips on Superbowl Sunday. When the bird realized I was watching, it beat a hasty retreat to the top of a nearby palm (doubtless embarrassed by its diminished station in life). Once there, it picked around as if bugs were what it really wanted . . . but I knew better.
