I spent the afternoon setting up cheezy Halloween pictures and trying to not think about the vagaries of life.
The plan was to enjoy the day, book in hand and camera at my side and just be greatful that I was not at work surrounded by grieving colleagues.
It ws a truly lovely afternoon, nice breeze, lots of birds checking ME out-I have one hummer that feeds at a favorite feeder so close that I can feel the wind from her wings on my face and see her lovely little cinnamon pantaloons, and a very brave Green PABU that wants to hang out in the gumbo limbo with the BGG and Prairie that are an arms length away.
As I watched and listened to the yard come alive I was treated to life in action.
As two of the hummers are wont to do, they chase each other away from certain feeders with gusto ,chattering loudly as they fly.
There are often small wasps at the feeders which are summarily flicked away by the feeding hummer prior to a sip of nectar.
Today after a chase around the yard, a hummer returned, flicked away a wasp which was then caught by a Tanager. The Tanager enjoyed its snack and then flew down to the Turks Cap where the male Baltimore was happily sipping nectar from the base of the flowers.Watching it all was a little BGG that seemed to be smiling.Robert,my buddy-friendpal, where ever you are I hope there are birds to keep you smiling.
