This morning we decided to take our 5 year old nephew Khalil & sister Jeannine to bird at AD Barnes and then Kendall Indian Hammock Park.

We saw a few of the usual suspects but were unable to locate too many birds because we were focusing on teaching our nephew the ropes. It was challenging to teach him to locate a bird with his eyes and then find them in the binocular but he eventually got the hang of it. He has been studying all our bird book gifts for the past year and now is intrigued to start finding them in the great outdoors. We hope to infect them both with the bird bug. Barnes was a little slow only saw the usuals. The highlight of Barnes was a PABU.

We then decided to head out to Kendall Indian Hammocks in hopes to find the Townsend's Warbler to show Khalil with no luck. Although we did find his favorite warbler the black-and-white which he observed for a while. We also got my sister some nice lifers such as the Philadelphia Vireo and Bay-breasted Warbler among may others for her including a Merlin flying overhead at both parks. Here is a list below of what we all saw today:

AD Barnes:
PABU
Red-eyed Vireo
Tufted Titmouse
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Prairie Warbler
Palm Warbler
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Moorhen
White Ibis
Fish Crow
Green Heron
E. Starling
Muscovy Duck
Blue Jay
Mockingbird
Cooper's Hawk (heard)
Merlin
Aflac Duck
Resident Rooster (which our nephew named Rusty the Rooster)

Kendall Indian Hammock:
Philadelphia Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Bay-breasted Warbler
Yellow-throated Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Northern Parula
Palm Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Merlin

We enjoyed birding with my sister and nephew today. With some more practice he should eventually give us a run for a our money. He has a great appreciation for nature that we have been encouraging since he was one. Good Birding to all.

Nature is Awesome!
