The hawkwatch is free. The hotel where they count the hawks (they count them on the roof) is about $20 USD per night- which is pretty sweet considering all you have to do is walk up the stairs. Getting there? plane fare to Veracruz will probably run you $400 (that's from New York), but you can get better deals. They have bottled water, but I recommend you buy a Negra Modelo from the stand at the hawkwatch...that was a surreal experience: drinking a Negra, watching 100,000+ raptors spiral into the sky and stream overhead, all to the chorus of Kiskadees and Melodious Blackbirds below...and a parade of virgins, but that's another story.
