We left the Burger King in Florida City shortly after 7am and headed over to Lucky Hammock. We saw a variety of warblers there, including Magnolia, before finding a (Western) Warbling Vireo on the north side of the hammock. Both Painted and Indigo Bunting were also seen.

Our second stop was the annex, where we boosted our warbler total to 13, and added a perched light morph Short-tailed Hawk.

Ruby-throated Hummer and Summer Tanager were at the Coe Visitor's center, where we stopped briefly before heading to Castellow Hammock. Castellow brought more Ruby-throats, a heard-only Ovenbird, White-winged Dove, and more of the warblers we'd been seeing.

Two Burrowing Owls were found fairly quickly at Kendall-Tamiami Airport, after which we headed on to Kendall Indian Hammocks Park. We birded the trees east of the ball fields, quickly finding Blue-winged and Bay-breasted Warblers. Before long, we had the Townsend's in sight (it seems to be a female based on dark olive auriculars and few, if any, back spots). Other warblers seen in the area included Blackburnian, Tennessee, Black-throated Green, Chestnut-sided, and too many Palms, Black-throated Blues, and Parulas to count. Some of the group saw a Scarlet Tanager. We also encountered Andy Bankert, who added the Townsend's to his Florida big year list (now in the 350's).

We ended the day by stopping briefly across from Baptist Hospital to look for Bulbuls. We dipped on the Bulbuls, but did find about 50 Mitred Parakeets.

Trip totals were 19 warbler species and about 70 total species.
