Northern Gannets were very close to Key Biscayne beach this morning. Ten were diving, swimming and just goofing around within 30 yards of the beach. (The 2 swimmers seemed oblivious.) Four were <10 yards off. This is the first time that I've had to power DOWN to look at gannets.

About 150 yards out there was another flock of 17 birds floating and preening. All ages were represented, including 5 adults. I guess the mullet were running (or swimming).

Migrating shorebirds have been stopping by Crandon Flats for the past week. There have been flocks of Willet, dowitchers and Dunlin in addition to the usual wintering birds.
