The screch owls are in the area but we still don't have confirmation that they are nesting in the box. The red-bellied woodpeckers grabbed the second one. There is a squirrel hanging around now, so it may usurp the owl. We also saw a pair of sharp-shined hawks two days past and the cormorant population is now about 45. they roose in the se corner of the property in the australian pines. Best place to watch them is the cananl bank. They start arriving at about 5:30 and come in to land like so many airplanes at Miami international, circle, follow one another, grab a branch, fall fly circle and start again. the whole roosting routine takes about an hour.

Two female painted buntings were at the feeders this morning and a pair of mottled ducks have been sighted "walking" about....I recognize that routine from my farm days...site-seeking as we used to say. Looking for a nesting place.

If/when the screech owls nest is confirmed we will alert everybody.
