I was quite surprised this morning to observe a Burrowing Owl near my workplace parking lot at the Port of Miami (officially Dodge Island), just over the port bridge from downtown Miami. While I often see loggerhead shrikes in the parking lot area (and even observed nesting), this is the first time I've ever seen a Burrowing Owl. It was perched on top of a fence at the edge of a parking lot (south of the primary port road) and next to a large lot full of shipping containers. I was quite interested to see this evening that there had been a separate Burrowing Owl posting for Crandon Park at Key Biscayne, which (as the owl flies) is only a few miles where I saw the burrowing owl at about 8:30 this morning. I hope I'll see this bird again.
