I had the exact same problem. I don't think what I saw where indigo buntings, as they had streaks on them when in flight. I am actually starting to think dicissal, as the birds I saw had longer tails than a grasshopper sparrow. There maybe little or no chance of dicissal at the time I was there. They discription of the buzzy, sharp bzzt almost matches the dicssal, aswell as perching on stalks, calling in flight, the different streaks on the back, and the group of them. Even though it could have been another sparrow, I'm thinking dicissal.
