This morning EagleEye and I struggled thru the morning gridlock on Old Cutler Road to look for the Cerulean warbler at Matheson.
On arrival we immediately located two fine specimens-of birder-Toe and Joel!
Toe had just seen a bay breasted warbler and pointed out a magnolia for us. We found Cape Mays, Black Throated Blues, Bl and White, Parula etc.But no Cerulean was seen.
We ventured over to a fruiting fig and waited for birds to cycle thru. There we found BTBs, Redstarts, CapeMays and a bunch more BTBs-mostly Fs (females). A hummingbird joined in for a diversion.
Several hawks were in the area too.
Trey joined us looking for the BayBreasted-Hopefully he found it and will post pics for us.
Later we walked down the Service road and found more Cape Mays and even more BTB-Fs, clearly the bird of the day.We found another Ruby throated hummer or two here and several common yellow throats, but it was remarkably devoid of bird activity.
Leaving Joel, EagleEye and I stopped at Sadowski park to see what was going on there. Once again those darn BTBs ,redstarts and Cape Mays were in the majority. We did find 3-4 Ruby throats, 4 spot breasted orioles (two singing quite nicely for us). A last stop in the little hammock in the parking lot provided 6 or so ovenbirds, the now dreaded BTBs, redstarts and Black and White warbler and Gnatcatchers.
