Although not well known, there are a number of tree plantings (including some large live oaks) on the west bank of the Miami Canal north of the Rest Area on Alligator Alley. You'll need to cruise a few miles up the canal to get to them. We observed many blue jays moving through (rare in this part of the Glades), several catbirds, both gray and eastern kingbirds, rt hummingbirds, and at least 6 species of warblers including an immature MAGNOLIA WARBLER. The Brazilian pepper has recently been treated here making it easier to spot the birds. Unlike most of the Everglades WMA, you can access these areas by taking a jon boat up the Miami Canal.
