Just curious... At Deering Estate, we saw quite a few different hawks, along with one or two un-identifyables. One, in particular, was the distinctivly white & black, fairly large bird that flew in the treetops and then flew down into the understory. I think one or two of us got a glimpse, but couldn't identify. Checking the guide, the Black Shouldered Kite (White-tailed Kite) seems to fit the bill, except they are found along the west coast of the U.S. with a narrow range alont the SE Texas coast. The guide (NGS Field Guide of N.A.) states their range is expanding rapidly. Have any of these birds ever been ID in Fla?
