Let me begin by saying that migration is a bit slow. OK, today I birded with Ernie Lent, who does the nature walks at Deering Estate, and although things were slow, we did have a good time with a couple neat birds. Ernie kept score, so I only have the highlights which included:

Yellow-throated Vireo (2)
Traill's Flycatcher (I would be on Willow, but it did not call)
Great-crested Flycatcher (~5)
Swainson's Thrush
Tree Swallow (2)
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
White-crowned Pigeon (7)
8 Species of warblers:
Tennessee
Parula
Prairie
Yellow-throated
Worm-eating
American Redstart
Ovenbird
Northern Waterthrush

As has been the case for about a week, Red-eyed Vireos were the most abundant species, followed closely by Gnatcatchers.

Cutler Wetlands has more water and vegetation than it did last month, and most of the shorebirds are now gone. Highlights there included

Bald Eagle (2)
American Avocet (7)
Stilt Sandpiper (11)
Short-billed Dowitcher (2)
Dowitcher sp (14)
Greater Yellowlegs (4)
Lesser Yellowlegs (5)
Western Sandpiper (1)
Blue-winged Teal (17)
Northern Shoveler (11)
Roseate Spoonbill (1)

The wetlands to the southeast held more shorebirds, and this place is looking pretty good right now. It had

Semipalmated Plover (16)
Killdeer (2)
Dowitcher sp (25)
Greater Yellowlegs (3)
Lesser Yellowlegs (12)
Western Sandpiper (10)
Pectoral Sandpiper (2)
Northern Shoveler (4)
Blue-winged Teal (2)
Black Skimmer (2)

Considering I was done by 12:00, it wasn't a bad morning. But, migration is still slow!
