They are conserving our native ecosystem, that's what they, or rather all of us, should do. It's funny how nobody objects to the killing of Melaleuca or Schinus (Brazilian Pepper), both invasive exotic plants (also living things), in order to restore (let's not forget about Everglades restoration folks, it's already having a tough time moving into higher gear because of special interest groups) our wetlands.

Yet, when the scientific and wildlife management communities decide to eradicate an exotic species that can potentially have negative effects on native waterfowl (Purple Gallinule, Common Moorhen, etc.), some folks go into an uproar. How should they get rid of them then? Trap them? Yeah right!

As far as the "drop in the bucket" comment goes:

The entire Everglades ecosystem cannot be considered just "One Bucket". Think of it as several "buckets", or habitats, and as far as wildlife goes, they don't occur in all habitats and some of the ones they do occur in aren't that big.

I'm going to join in and shoot me some Swamphens...it's the least I can do for my Everglades!
