I went out to check Dee's bald eagle sighting (see post below) and discovered a very large bird sitting on a tree top in the Cypress Head East of Monarch High (Wiles Road) West of Lyons Road. The site is the Triangle Farm field which is not operational and locked. High tension wires run east to west. There is a small pull out convenient for viewing. After scoping it turned out the bird was a hawk and when a second one joined it and the two took to flight together it was very apparent these were red-tailed hawks. When the male turned flat to the sun its tail feathers looked like the front door light on Bourbon Street. The birds were very wary and kept a distance from the High School, Lyon's Roda and Wiles Road. Another interesting aspect is that the fields are not prepared for crops and are overgrown with fennel, ragweed and biden. The high power wires were loaded with mourning dove and as we watched the hawks they flew up and down from the weed fields. There were about 150 dove.
