From Naples, Ken Williams & I were part of the ill-fated search for the Baird's & Buff-breasted today. Oh well, win some, lose some. I hold Larry Manfredi totally accountable for their absence of course. :-) Anyway, we did find Solitary, Pectoral & Least Sandpipers at SW 202 & SR 9336. At the Southern Glades WEA (Annex) a few folks briefly saw the Alder Flycatcher. Some other birds there: multiple Eastern Kingbirds, Prairie Warbler, Ovenbird, American Redstart (several), Red-eyed Vireo, White-eyed Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher among others. For me the highlights were the many Julias (butterflies) and Odes (Odonata i.e. dragonflies & admselflies) present as well as the Florida Tree Snails and many arachnids. Afterwards, Ken and I ventured to Cutler Wetlands where we met up with David & Jill Kaminski, also from Naples. There we saw what everyone else has been seeing including the Wilson's Phalarope and many Short-billed Dowitchers, American Avocets (7)etc. Great Odes too! The Cave Swallows at 216th were also nice to see again. From there we ventured to Kendall but only found Monk Parakeets for our efforts around the Baptist Hospital. A.D. Barnes produced some nice migrants including a male Black-throated Blue Warbler, at least one Tufted Titmouce and the juvie Cooper's Hawk. Other birds present: Prairie Warbler, several Red-eyed Vireos, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Northern Parula, and American Redstarts (many).
