An aluminum snake tong with a squeeze grip up top and padded jaws on the bottom is a great help in moving them off the road. I am always grateful for them when I need to move a Cottonmouth, though mine also came in handy with a "docile" little Striped Crayfish Snake that advanced on me and struck like a King Cobra! You can buy them from Midwest Tongs (Google it).
