Yesterday morning while checking one of my greenhouses, I noticed a bird had been trapped inside. I caught it & identified it as a Chuck-will's-widow (I think). Good thing I got it before the neighbors' cats. He looks pretty p***ed off. Check out the mouth...it's a good thing they don't have teeth! Anyway, it was a great feat just to go get the camera and try and take one-handed pictures while holding the bird.
I've noticed this bird (or others) flying around the wooded section of my property for about 2 years now. It's protected from hawks and offers good cover. I do have barn owls and some hawks have been seen by the greenhouses. I hope he doesn't take this capture as too personal and will come back. After all, better me than the cats!
