For fear of sounding like birding elitists, Rafael Galvez and I had the distinct pleasure of experiencing a rare Miami-Dade County trifecta - spotting a Buff-breasted, Baird's and Upland Sandpiper in the agricultural fields near the entrance to Everglades National Park late Tuesday afternoon. Rafael spotted the Buff-breasted at the previously reported S.W. 202nd Avenue location and then we soon located the Baird's mixed in with several Pectoral Sandpipers. The golden bibb of the juvenile Baird's is quite beautiful.

We headed over to the Lucky Hammock/Annex area to look for Alder Flycatcher but no luck. Three Sandhill Cranes, a Least Sandpiper, Greater Yellowlegs, Kildeer, a Cooper's Hawk, Barn, Bank and Rough-winged Swallows, as well as American Redstart and Prairie Warbler were also in the area. On the way out we stopped at the large sprinkler station just west of S.W. 217th Avenue and located two Upland Sanpipers in the field north of 9336. Life is good..............seeing an old friend and seeing great birds.
