While visiting Gulf Breeze on 8/25/07 I saw what appeared to be a male Lazuli bunting. Only saw the bird for about 5 seconds and did not have a camera. Bird's head and back when flying a very bright aqua/turquoise blue. Had a rust chest, white belly. Dark gray/black wings and tail. Tail with small fork. Did not get good enough a look to see if had wingbars. I have seen painted and indigo buntings as well as eastern bluebirds and this bird was definitely not any of these. Also did not resemble hybrid indigo x painted bunting hybrid. A lazuli has been recorded at Ft De Soto in St. Pete, FL outside its range which extends into Texas and Mexico at its closest to FL. This current bird possibly displaced by Hurricane Dean? Looked for the bird on 8/26/07 but did not see it again. It was seen previous day along shoreline of Pensacola Bay behind Highpoint Drive in Gulf Breeze.
