Hi everyone,
Today we had a late start birding but still had a wonderful time. We first checked out the wetlands in hope of something out of the norm. and found ourselves getting there just in time for an Osprey's late lunch. While the Osprey was enjoying it's catch a Red-Shouldered Hawk came out of nowhere and tried to steal the Osprey's catch. The Osprey just flew over to another pole with it's meal in claw. We had a great opportunity to observe a Tri-colored Heron while it danced with it's prey.
Shorebirds were hanging out far back into the wetlands, and the vegetation is overgrown on the east side. With no scope we were limited in view.
We left the wetlands and headed out to Lucky Hammock in hope of catching glimpse of some flycatchers before sundown. When we arrived we were greeted by some Killdeer and hundreds of bugs, lots of swallows were there to eat. We drove on and found a group of three Sandhill Cranes at west side of the road before the second speed bump. It was nice to see the Cranes.
Overall we had a good day birding in South Dade.
