I headed to the Annex early this morning to find the Alder Flycatcher and found Bill B. and Andy B. doing the same. By 8:30 we had seen 3 Empidonax sp. but only quick looks and nothing calling. Andy said one looked like an Acadian. Finally about 8:45 an Alder Flycatcher called while we watched. We attempted to record the call with my old mini-cassette recorder, but it didn't pick up the call. Bill and Andy left for other adventures but I stayed to try and get a photo of the Alder and maybe the Acadian. I only got two photos of the Alder and both were not so good.
I did get a look at what I an Acadian flycatcher. It was more of a green color and a vary pale yellow underneath. I did hear it call also. It was different than the Alders chip note in that it was a quick two note call - TEE-chip.
The Alder was just before the BUMP and the Acadian was close to the BIG TREE just south of the phone equipment box on the road.
We also saw:
Yellow Warbler
Prothonotary
Prairie
Red Start
Blue-Grey Gnatcatchers
Mockers and Cardinals
I saw only a few shorebird in the nearby farm feilds:
Several Semi-palmated Sandpipers
Least Sandpiper
Killdeers
and 2 Upland Sandpipers near Luck Hammock
