Eighteen shorebird species were seen by participants during today's TAS carpool trip to the Everglades Agricultural Area in Palm Beach County:
Black-bellied Plover
Semipalmated Plover
Killdeer
Black-necked Stilt
American Avocet
Greater Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
Solitary Sandpiper
Spotted Sandpiper
Upland Sandpiper (Roth Sod Farm)
Ruddy Turnstone
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Western Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Pectoral Sandpiper
Stilt Sandpiper
Short-billed Dowitcher
Wilson's Phalarope (seen in flooded field on CR 880, just south of University of Florida Agricultural Station. Thanks to Vince Lucas for this find.)
Other birds of note:
Black-bellied and Fulvous Whistling-Duck, Mottled Duck and Blue-winged Teal
Least Bittern
Black-crowned and Yellow-crowned Night-Herons
Roseate Spoonbill
Greater Flamingo (14, provenance unknown; for the life of me, I can't recall where we saw these ;)
Gull-billed, Caspian, Least and Black Terns
Bank and Barn Swallows
Yellow Warbler
At the conclusion of today's trip, a subgroup headed off in search of Barn Owls; hopefully a follow-up report will add this species to the trip list.
