Eagle Eye and I were fortunate to see the Anis (3) this morning.
They were easy to observe from the 800 building.
A safety reminder here.
Larry was kind enough to point out a while back that this is NOT the safest of areas.
Do not flash expensive toys or stay long if you do.
Eagle Eye was approached this morning and asked if she was high on crack. Did they want to sell her some or find her easy pickings, I don't know-but it was enough to convince us to take our leave.
Back to the Anis.
We watched three different birds make repeated trips to the fields and return to the nest with grasshopper insects.
The nest is deep within a very dense tree(and yes there are kids inside from the sound of it).
They seemed to wait on the electric poles until it was time for a changing of the guard and a new insect, then swapped places.
So question 1- Do Anis communally nest?
Question 2- Is the bill size variable to gender or markedly larger in a breeding male (like a white pelican?}
Curious minds want to know.
Be careful out there!!!
