Egg-eating snake

Today in my yard in Miami Beach, I observed a ring-necked snake eating what I believe was a lizard egg (an egg just slightly bigger than the head of a 9-10" snake). It took about 10 minutes from start to finish. I thought they only ate insects. Sorry no pix. Is this typical for ring-necks?
