The water levels are dropping but that is actually a good thing. Soon there will be thousands of migrating shorebirds looking for a place to stop. The drop in the water level is from percolation and evaporation. From the road much of what I thought was dry was soaking wet.
I walked out into Cutler Wetland the other day and found that there is about 1 1/2 inches of water on top of 6-18 inches of soft mud before my feet hit the bedrock (coral rock).
Be sure to keep a look out for the unusual. You never know what may show up...
