The number of Purple Martins arriving each evening at the roost on Davie Road has been in decline for over a week now and has dropped to just a few thousand. From early June until about July 8 there were over ten thousand coming in after sunset but on Tuesday (7/10), there was a noticeable drop in their numbers. On Friday (7/13), the number had dropped to five or six thousand and last night (7/16) only three or four thousand arrived.

The roost is located in the trees in front of the Race Trac gas station on the west side of Davie Road (SW 64th Ave.) a little less than half a mile south of I-595 in Broward County. The staging area around a lake about a mile to the southeast where at least a couple of thousand Martins had gathered for a couple of hours before leaving for the main roost is no longer active.
