Today at work, while messing around with a new GPS unit, I found a Western spindalis (black-backed variety?) at JW Corbett WMA. I was just standing in an area waiting for the satellites to catch and I thought I would pish and see what popped up - first a cardinal, then a great-crested flycatcher then to my complete surprise a wetern spindalis flew over and landed in a shrub not 5 feet away. I had to blink a few times to make sure I wasn't seeing things. It was surely one the last birds I thought I would see. It was pretty dark out due to a thunderstorm building right above us but I did manage a few shots to get it on record with a camera from work. I am going to try again tomorrow for a few better shots. Unfortunately the area where I found the bird is restricted to FWC employees so I cannot disclose the exact location. Can anyone tell me the occurrence of western spindalis in Florida during the summer??

There is only one pic of the back of the bird.
