Testing the theory that only mad dogs and Englishmen go into the noon day summer sun Ellie and I joined with Holly, Johhny, and Ruth and other photographers to patrol Wako.

The Greenback heron is brooding just to the left of the entrance ramp (north side) and leaves frequently to feed. The sun doe the incubating quite well. A pair of black crowned night herons were also about and within 3o feet of the boardwalk. A moorhen continues to build its nest on a small island (about 24 inches across) on the south side of the board walk. All of this activity was within the first 15 feet of the down ramp going east. For photographers, note these locations well as both nests and fledglings will be a "gimme" for your skills.

On the back side of Wakodahatchee (east) three Black-belleid whistling dusks were out and about but stayed behind vegetation for a "no-shot".

Tri-colors are in greater numbers than last year and many are habituated to people walking by.

Moorhen and Purple Gallinule chicks are all over the place and range in age from 2 weeks old to some just days old. Many fish crows are also about plying their old trade.

It is hot, humid but not buggy. And there are very few people---just mad dogs and Englishmen.
