I have been keeping an eye out for anything birdy in the Miami Shores area recently. Both night-herons frequent the golf course, as do Eastern Screech-owls at night. Many aratinga parakeets and Chestnut-fronted Macaws can be seen in that area as well. A Red-shouldered Hawk was another durprise, considering I don't see them too often in Miami Shores.
I took another friend out to the Everglades in search of herps tonight. Along with three Corn Snakes, another Scarlet Snake, ribbon, garter, and water snakes, a Barn Owl and Common Nighthawks were seen, and a Chuck-will's-widow was heard.
Can you guys wait for the first Barn Swallows and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers that should show up later this month? I am growing a little impatient. Luckily south Florida has a lot to offer in the mammal and herp departments.
Alex
