I have a friend who saw a bird she described as about the size of a grackle but it looked a little like a penguin in the face. This person is just a beginner, moreso than I am. She saw the bird two consecutive weekends on the fence and in the grass around her home. This was about a month ago.

After seeing another bird she wanted to know how to identify it, I sent her to whatbird.com. Her reply in e-mail about the current bird, also contained a picture of the other bird she could not identify. She identified it as a smooth billed Ani.

I know I have seen Anis in the trees around Cypress Creek and North Andrews Avenue, but this was about 15 years ago.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, the sighting occurred along the back fence of Atlantic Baptist Church in Margate. It would be around the southwest corner of that property.

By the way, she has not seen the bird lately, and I cannot verify the sighting.
