I agree with you, but macaws hand raised as pets prefer living with humans. Some of my macaws are partially clipped because of the water hazard behind my house but some are not . One has gone off with the wild flock for 3 days but returned ( she must not have liked the guy). According to Irene Peperdine , an MIT professor working on parrrot intelligence they are smarter than chimps and can use language appropriately. The comparison was made with a 4 year old toddler, can distinguish shapes and colors, can count to 6, etc.
