The number of birds arriving at the Davie Purple Martin roost in the evening has increased considerably since my last visit on 5/27. I estimate that about ten thousand Martins were in the air, the trees, or in the power lines when activity peaked at about 8:15 this evening, compared to the two thousand or so last week.
The roost is in front of the Race Trac gas station on the west side of Davie Road (SW 64th Ave.) about a quarter mile south of I-595.
