Purple Finch on Deerfield Beach

Is this possible? The bird was hanging around a tall condo on the beach, acting like it might be being fed there. There was no doubt about the bill, the coloration, and size - a dead ringer for the field guides. I haven't seen one before except for photos on this list, but it is unforgettable ;)

Do they migrate? Maybe a pet?
