With our attention focused on the tern it's only fair to mention that Elsa and I heard 5 Clapper Rails this morning. Our objective was to confirm that there are indeed Clapper Rails in the vicinity of the entrance to Convoy Point. We started before 6:00 and walked south along the east bank of the canal, and headed down the old service road that runs parallel with the large transimission wires towards Turkey Point. There is a wet area when you first leave the levee, but it's dry from that point on. We quickly heard 3 Clappers calling at the same time a short distance down, then 2 more in different locations. This is a larger number than I've ever heard at Snake Bight, but I've seen them down there and only seen them once at Convoy Point. I believe Juan Valladez saw one a couple years ago crossing the road like I did, which is what motivated me to search for them here. Now that I know they are there, the real trick is to figure out a reliable way to see them. Any suggestions?
