I swore I was going to stay home this weekend and do the chores that I keep putting off to go birding.
I did get as far as puttering in the yard with some foliar fertilizer, that is , until 3 blackpoll warblers, redstarts and nesting mockers and doves convinced me to give up.
Then I come in to see that there are Avocets at EcoPond.
WooHoo.
On the way down this morning, I stopped at the obligatory "hawk on a No Fishing sign" for a quick look. Poor thing was minding his own business when a blackbird landed behind him on a reed.
Then his blackbird woman appeared and next thing you know The blackbird is riding the hawk! Not sure if he made the whole 8 seconds but he did have two rides.
When I got to Stinko-Pinko (eco)pond, I was impressed by the avocets, black necked stilts and 38 white pelicans circling in the air. A walk around the back (stinky) side yielded about a dozen roseates, snowy egrets, tricolor heron and Dunlins in breeding plumage.
Mosquitos were nill, but Deer flies were persistent.
On the road back up, a small flock of Boblinks flew across the road near Hell's bay and 2 SWTKs were hunting un the air.
