I went to Sadowski this afternoon hoping to relocate Trey's female Hooded. After checking out the shrubby area near the building and not finding the bird, I went into the nature trail. Right at the amphitheatre benches (there are 4), under some heavy shrubs to the right near a small solution hole, I found a male Mourning Warbler. I observed it less than 10 feet away until it flew over the benches into the shrubs on the north side. A little later down the trail, right where the understory opens up near a large tree, I decided to look to the trail to the right, instead of heading left as I usually do. Immediately I see a male Connecticut Warbler walk from near the sign that reads "Natural Transition."

There were huge numbers of warblers throughout the park, more than I've ever seen here. I don't know what the stuff up in the trees were, since I was only looking down, crouching low, and squating to get better looks at the ground. Instead of Warbler Neck I got a bad case of "Skulker Knee." I guess all my whining about spring migration worked: the birds came in just to shut me up!

Sadowski is located at 17555 SW 79 Ave, just a couple blocks west of Old Cutler Road on 176 St. in Palmetto Bay.

In case you are wondering, Warbler Valhalla I occured on October 16, 2004. Species variety was less this time, but the numbers of individuals are truly impressive, and Mourning and Connecticut together make up for at least 8 other species of warbler.

Get out there tomorrow folks; lots of birds are dropping in this afternoon.
