Good evening,

According to my files, Bryant Roberts was the first to report Superb Starlings in the Hollywood area, in a TAS post dated 23 July 2003 (http://www.tropicalaudubon.org/tasboard/messages/2674.html).

Since that time, there have been several observations from Hollywood, all within an area of 3 square miles. Given the unliklihood that one or two birds could be seen so frequently and over such a wide area (for a presumed sedentary bird), I'll hazard a guess that there are many Superb Starlings -- dozens perhaps -- in the Hollywood area, and that they have been breeding since at least the past five years.

Interestingly, Superb Starlings seem to build twig nests much more frequently than they nest in cavities, according to my single reference -- I never would have guessed that.

And Larry is right: his photo is the first verifiable evidence obtaied in Florida at least, and quite possibly in the New World.

Best regards,
