They are descended from domestic Muscovies, and usually bear little resemblance to the wild ones which are sleeker, glossy green-black, wary, cavity nesting ducks of wooded wetlands from Mexico down to South America.

As if to demsonstrate how embarrasingly out of shape the domestic version is, I once saw one at the Falls mall hitching a ride across a parking lot on top of a mini-van before hopping off when they passed by his "stop".
