A very quick walk through south part of Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park produced a beautiful male Western Tanager. He was seen at 5 PM in top of Green Buttonwood, just soaking up rays. He is very bright, with red covering one-half of his head.

The area is near bike path restrooms where Pond Trail intersects. A Western Kingbird was at same location on 12/16. In addition to usual wintering birds, this area hosts American Goldfinches, Broad-winged Hawk, Indigo and Painted Buntings, White-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos, Prairie, American Redstart, Orange-crowned, Magnolia (2), Northern Parula and Black-throated Green Warblers. The Blackpoll Warbler was last seen on 12/11.
