Despite the recent rain, the water level in the southeast corner of WCA 2 adjacent to Markham Park has continued to drop since my last visit about two weeks ago and the large flocks of waders and wetland birds are congregating closer to the levee. The mix of birds is pretty much the same as then but Roseate Spoonbills have joined the feeding flocks and a few Least Terns were hunting over the more open water. The number of Snail Kites has held at about five and there were a couple of half-grown Purple Swamphen chicks among the fifty or so adults and immatures seen this morning.
