I made a brief visit to Markham Park yesterday, after spending the morning at Evergreen Cem. Looking into the SE corner of WCA-2A I saw 3 Snail Kites, good numbers of the expected wading birds, including 2 Roseate Spoonbills, and in one continuous scan I counted *58* Purple Swamphens. In that same scan I only saw 2 Purple Gallinules. The Snail Kites were quite close, providing excellent views as they foraged over the marsh.

To get to this spot, park at the Dog Park and walk across the field toward I 75, then follow the paved path West to a spot where you can cross the canal and get up on the levee. Recent construction and plant removal have made the directions in Pranty a bit confusing. Hopefully all of this rain won't cause immediate dispersal of these birds in case anybody wanted to go get a look.
