Since mid-February I have seen flocks (15+) of migrating Cedar Waxwings almost every day, in MANY locations in Broward and Palm Beach countites. Tonight I heard a plaintive whistle in a Deerfield Beach park and found a lone waxwing high in a tree, obviously looking for his/her flock.
My question - what happens to birds left behind? Do they meet up with later flocks going north, or are they doomed to traveling alone, and particularly vulnerable?
I blame the lack of migrating eye-candy for my maudlin musings on this lonely bird ;)
